Brim Hats for Beginners

Every closet deserves an excellent collection: some women collect shoes, others purses. For me, it’s a quality hat with a wide brim.

There is something so edgy yet timeless about a brim hat, especially when you find the right one. I love how they can tell a story about a person, and instantly make you feel more confident no matter if you’re on the beach or at Sunday Brunch.

I think a common misconception about brim hats is it takes a certain type of person with a specific type of style to pull them off, and this is FALSE. You simply have to find the ideal brim width for you.

So, if you’re looking to expand your fashion horizons, here are my top hat brands that offer great quality and great fit.

Urban Outfitters Flat Brim Felt Fedora

What I love about this hat is how well the brim holds its shape, and that it comes in multiple colors. You can wear this as pictured, or on the back of your head to give you a more feminine, halo-esque look. In my opinion, every hat collection should have a classic cream/neutral color option — it goes well with a multitude of outfits.

Straw boater hats are my absolute favorite, especially this one from ASOS. It’s breathable, travels well, and goes with everything—swimsuits, flowy dresses, jeans, shorts, etc. Truly the perfect summer/vacation hat.

Fallen Broken Street

This Australian brand is top notch. They offer a variety of options, and the quality is out of this world. If you’re looking for a unique staple piece, I would buy from here. I personally love the one pictured for its structured crown and the burnt orange detailing.

Truth be told, as you start building out your collection, you will pay more attention to which stores carry hats worth the spend. I’ve found some great ones from places like Target and Forever 21, which serve as a great starting point for any beginners not looking to shell out a lot of money. Start with black and neutral, then work your way into color.
